Hydrogen Terminal & Process Design
The majority of large scale projects involving either the production of hydrogen or the use of imported hydrogen are still in in their infancy, typically held at feasibility stage due to the economics of hydrogen production still being a difficult hurdle to overcome.
In readiness for the future Whessoe have completed a concept/feasibility design for a Hydrogen import terminal.
The terminal is required to import liquified hydrogen in sufficient quantity that after vaporisation it shall supply a power plant which has a 390MW CCGT using 100% hydrogen as its fuel.
The concept study was extremely useful as it identified areas of the design that proved to be much more complex than originally anticipated. A simple example being that due to the liquid being so light it’s density can change significantly over small temperature changes, therefore management of its pressure and temperature takes on a new importance when controlling the volume of a given mass to be stored.
The following deliverables were produced as part of the concept feasibility study:
- Design Basis
- Heat & Material Balance
- PFD
- Terminal Plot Plan
- Equipment List
- Isolation Philosophy
- Safety Philosophy
- Control & Operating Philosophy
